DollarBuddy

DollarBuddy is an easy-to-use phone app that seeks to make your life easy by keeping track of your expenses and helps to manage your budgets. The app allows users to keep a track of the expenditure, maintain customized traveling budgets as well as real time conversion of currencies, all in an integrated manner.

Designed in a user-friendly way and with neat UI/UX, DollarBuddy minimizes the burden of overspending when traveling around the world.

Some of the challenges we faced during the development of DollarBuddy :

1. Technically, we had to ensure proper real time currency conversion and synchronize exchange rates with offline back up, which was very challenging because of API limitations and floating exchange rates.
2. To achieve an interface that is not only intuitive, but also filled with multiple features to serve with little time and Internet connectivity, numerous revisions of the design and proper user testing were necessary.
3. The solution to having a currency conversion feature which can still be operable without the presence of internet (more so to those traveling in remote regions) meant rethinking data storage and syncing strategies.

Result:

1. Incorporated a reliable currency conversion API and caching logic for offline use.
2. Designed and interface that is simple, mobile-first with an emphasis on intuitiveness, with focus on expenses tracking and clarity of financial information.
3. Adopted the feature of secure local storage and automatic sync to make sure the performance is seamless online and offline as well for currency conversion.
